FIRST INSURANCE COMPANY OF HAWAII NAMES JEFF SHONKA SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

 

HONOLULU – The First Insurance Company of Hawaii (FICOH) board of directors has elected Jeff Shonka senior vice president, chief operating officer (COO). Shonka joined FICOH in 2002 as its chief financial officer. With this promotion, Shonka has assumed responsibility for key operational areas of the company, including Claims, Personal and Commercial Lines, Legal, Surety & Fidelity, and First Risk Management Services (FiRMS), a subsidiary brokerage operation for non-standard risks.

“Jeff is an invaluable member of the executive team who during his 10 years with First Insurance has not only earned the respect and trust of our officers, but of his department, our company and other industry leaders in Hawaii,” said Allen Uyeda, president and CEO of First Insurance.

Last night the District 4 (Waimanalo, Kailua, Kaneohe, Kahuku) conducted a Safer Roads operation at three locations, Pali hwy, H-3 Frwy, and Kamehameha Hwy. between 10:30 pm and 3:00 am.

A total of 22 citations were issued of which 17 were for speeding.

Hawaii’s super-sized dreams to electrify its transportation system will take another leap forward with the installation of electric car charging stations on Oahu’s North Shore.

Better Place, in cooperation with Hawaii Reserves Inc. and the Polynesian Cultural Center, will install and manage electric vehicle charging stations at the Laie Shopping Center and the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC) in Laie this week. Electric car drivers can use the Better Place charge spots free of charge through the end of 2012 by signing up for a free membership at www.betterplace.com/hawaii.

“The Polynesian Cultural Center is pleased to be partnering with Better Place. The station will fill a real need for charging locations beyond the urban core,” said Von Orgill, PCC’s CEO.

Waialua woman dies following car crash

Waialua woman dies following car crash

An elderly woman from Waialua has died following a car crash in Haleiwa Tuesday afternoon.

Officials say it is unclear at this point whether she died from injuries sustained in the crash.

According to police, the 83 year old was riding in a car that rear ended another vehicle on Kamehameha Highway near Emerson Road at about 3 p.m.

The woman and the driver were taken to the hospital in good condition.

The woman was pronounced dead just before 11 p.m.

The Medical Examiner is now looking into the case.
