Hawaii’s Top High School Principal and Middle School Principal for 2012

Top school leaders were celebrated by the Hawaii Association of Secondary School Administrators at a special awards banquet held at the Hale Koa Hotel on May 6.

Randiann Porras-Tang, principal of Waialua High and Intermediate School, has been named the 2012 MetLife /National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) Hawaii High School Principal of the Year and Kaimuki Middle School Principal Frank Fernandes has been selected as the 2012 MetLife /National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) Hawaii Middle School Principal of the Year.  

Finalists for the National High School Principal of the Year and Middle School Principal of the Year will be interviewed in Washington, D.C., in July. Porras-Tang and Fernandes will join their fellow state principals of the year at the Principal’s Institute and Awards Gala.

Hawaii High School Wins Prestigious Award at World Robotics Championship

After an exciting three days of competition, the 2012 FIRST Championship robotics competition ended today with Kalani High School receiving the Making FIRST Accessible Award. The Kalani Falcon's outreach into the community and ability to introduce robotics to new people of all ages, were a few of the reasons they recieved the award. Total, seven Hawaii High Schools competed in the event in St. Louis, from April 25-28. Waialua High and Intermediate, Kealakehe High School, Island Pacific Academy, Punahou School, Baldwin High School, Kalani High School, and Kohala High School competed at the Edward Jones Dome. 

All of the teams competed well in their division, and Waialua High School made it to the semifinals of the Archimedes division, representing Hawaii well.

Come out to Windward Mall on Wednesday (April 18) to support the Kahuku High School Marching Band.

They'll be performing a special concert at Center Court.

Admission is FREE, so bring the entire family.

Grants to benefit the Kahuku community now available

Grants to benefit the Kahuku community now available

The Hawai‘i Community Foundation is inviting community groups and nonprofit organizations to submit grant proposals for The Kahuku Community Fund.  Established in 2005 by the Estate of James Campbell, the fund’s purpose is to address community needs and benefit areas in the Kahuku district, from Turtle Bay to Mālaekahana.  The deadline to submit applications is
Wednesday, February 1, 2012.  

The fund welcomes proposals aimed at improving the quality of life in the Kahuku community through supporting a variety of programs including those that address:

BYU–Hawaii to break ground for new campus buildings

LAIE, HI - Brigham Young University–Hawaii is pleased to announce that the groundbreaking for a new multi-use building and new student housing facilities will be held Saturday, December 17, 2011, at 1:30 PM, following the Fall 2011 Commencement exercises held that morning. Elder Jeffery R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) will preside at the groundbreaking.

The new multi-use building will house the business management/hospitality and tourism management and accounting departments, and will serve as a meetinghouse for several of the student LDS congregations. Architectural renderings and drawings of this building are on display in the Aloha Center on the BYU–Hawaii campus.
