Fundraiser held for former Kahuku student diagnosed with cancer

The Kahuku community is rallying around a former Red Raider.

Hundreds came out to Hawaiian Brian's Sunday night for a fundraiser for Kalae Carr.

The 2010 Kahuku graduate was recently diagnosed with follicular lymphoma.

He's heading to the City of Hope Cancer Treatment Center in California for a stem cell transplant.

His treatment is expected to take at least six months.

Kalae's mother says she's grateful for all the support their family has received.

Kahuku football coaches suspended, investigation on-going

Kahuku football coaches suspended, investigation on-going

Less than two weeks before the start of the high school football season, perennial powerhouse Kahuku has suspended two coaches.

Varsity coach Reggie Torres and junior varsity coach Ikaika Plunkett were suspended on Friday after some JV players were in possession of a banned substance earlier in the week.

Sources say Plunkett discipline the entire JV team and later told Torres about the incident.

However, both failed to report the incident to the school's principal.

She suspended them a day after finding out.

The coaches have refused to comment until an investigation is completed.

This is the second time in eight months that the Red Raiders football team have received negative attention.

Last November, Kahuku's varsity team was disqualified from the state playoffs for using an ineligible player.
